White wedding at the Horniman Museum & Gardens

I’m excited to be able to share Jo & James’ white wedding from last summer with you…I had to keep it under wraps as it has been published in Brides magazine!

Jo & James hosted a black and white wedding, asking the men to wear black tie, and the ladies to wear white. I love to be able to blend in as a guest at weddings, and welcome any excuse to buy a new dress, so I too wore white.

I started the day by joining Jo and her bridesmaids at Shoreditch House where they had stayed the night before. Jo had a plaited up do by Barber and Parlour and Mac did an amazing job with the make up (and also saved the day with the bridesmaids make up appointment falling through on the day! Phew!)

Jo said: While planning my wedding I was also designing the V&A Wedding Dresses 1775–2014 Exhibition so I was overwhelmed with amazing inspiration and resources at my fingertips. Choosing the right dress very difficult. I narrowed it down to the style I wanted – backless and very pure and simple with lots of tulle because I love the way this photographs using soft focus lenses.

Having been lucky enough to go the Ian Stuart show through Brides magazine / V&A while researching, I actually came across Sanyukta Strestha (award winning Nepalese designer based in Fulham for her green credentials) in Brides magazine and loved her ethos. Using only organic silk, handwoven silk tulle for the skirt and soft organic bamboo cotton lining. I met the designer on the first fitting and she made me feel very at ease and advised that I should feel comfortable in the dress it ticked all my boxes and felt amazing and it was great to meet the designer herself.

Jo looked incredible in her ‘Audrey H’ Sanyukta Shrestha ddress and veil. She wore a headpiece and necklace made by Cailin Alainn in Australia.

James wore a Topman suit with Lanvin shirt and bow tie along with Lanvin suede sneakers (his ushers complimenting with Converse).
The bridesmaids shoes and dresses were from Reiss in a stunning ice blue colour making them stand out from the guests in white and black.

Jo and James chose to hold their white wedding at the stunning Victorian Conservatory at Horniman Museum and Gardens in Forest Hill, with Suzanne James providing the catering using local suppliers.
Jo, a graphic designer for the V&A designed all of their wedding stationery.

To inject a bit of fun they incorporated the famous Horniman Museum walrus on the top with added lego hat, veil and flowers made by Sugarcraft Boutique. The Fresh Flower Company created the beautiful bouquets for Jo and her bridesmaids as well as the centre pieces for the wedding breakfast tables. Jo’s bouquet was a bespoke bunch of garden flowers with white roses and a mix of varied white flowers and the Bridesmaid and decorative flowers were Gypsophila.
